The third meeting of the "Solar Heroes" brought not only technical aspects but also aesthetic considerations regarding solar installations to the table.

Thomas Sprau from Solardachzentrum, a supporting member of the Stuttgart Climate Community, made a comment on LinkedIn about alternative modules. Special panels that blend seamlessly into the existing façade and are visually barely recognizable as solar modules open up new possibilities for the design of solar installations.

When asked whether our independent solar expert Robert has already had experience with such alternative modules in his projects, he answered with a no. At present, mainly classic solar modules are installed, although he believes that modules in different colors are sometimes already being used, which are particularly suitable for use on listed buildings. However, Robert sees a trend towards more variety on the market. He believes that translucent modules in particular still need some time to establish themselves.

Solar Heroes also focus on aesthetics

The topic of aesthetics is also gaining in importance for Thomas, one of our Solar Heroes. The current standard sizes of solar modules do not harmonize perfectly with his structured roof. Thomas would like more choice when it comes to the size of the modules, even if the price factor has to be taken into account. Robert advises involving the tradesmen in the decision-making process. A photographic installation of the planned roof layout can help to visualize possible faults, and the experts can contribute their experience to find the best possible solution.

The aesthetic considerations thus come into focus as the Solar Heroes shape the future of their sustainable projects.

Solar Scouts: Guiding the way in the world of solar energy in Stuttgart

At the third meeting of the "Solar Heroes", Robert also provided an exciting insight into the Solar Scouts initiative in Stuttgart. As part of an information campaign, 60 committed citizens have already taken on the role of Solar Scouts. This group will be fully active in the spring to sort through the "cacophony of information" and provide people with trustworthy and independent support when it comes to solar installations, emphasized Robert.

The Solar Scouts could play a decisive role in the (solar) energy transition in Stuttgart - especially in light of the rapidly developing industry. Although the prices for solar modules have already fallen by half in the last year, these savings have not yet fully reached the end consumer.

Cost differences of up to 100 percent

In this context, Robert warned against dubious offers and pointed out the importance of collective tenders through the "Stuttgart Solar Offensive". In a recent example, over 60 installation companies were contacted, with eight offers coming back with a cost spread of up to 100 percent.

These tenders are therefore an essential tool to ensure that the market functions effectively. The three best bids will now also be checked on site by the "solar offensives" to ensure quality and reliability. In this context, Robert emphasizes the importance of a good reputation for the companies, as they live largely from positive recommendations.

And then our next meeting was scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
