At our second meeting, it wasn't just our new Solar Heroes Sabrina, Dennis and (as a follow-up) Bettina who presented their projects. This time, we also discussed the conditions for financial support and technical considerations.

Sabrina's thoughts on storage: is it worth it?

During the online meeting, Sabrina expressed concerns about the viability of a storage system for the electricity generated by the PV system. She suggested that small storage systems may not be economical and is considering waiting for future neighborhood solutions. In this situation, our independent solar expert Robert gave the answer that storage systems in Stuttgart are already comparatively well subsidized - with 300 euros per kilowatt hour of storage capacity. This information will help Sabrina decide how she can make the most effective use of green energy in her home.

Exploring solar potential: a joint look at the solar atlas for Stuttgart

We also took a joint look at the solar atlas for the Stuttgart region. This innovative tool enables a precise solar potential analysis for every property in the Stuttgart city area, among others. The representation of "solar potential areas" on rooftops is based on the Baden-Württemberg environmental information system and provides a valuable resource for our Heroes. The calculation model roughly classifies the theoretically achievable solar yields on house roofs, making it possible to recognize whether a roof is particularly suitable for solar use due to its location, orientation (e.g. south-facing) and roof pitch. This procedure was carried out throughout the state of Baden-Württemberg and provides our participants with a scientifically sound basis for identifying the optimal locations for their photovoltaic systems. Overcoming challenges together

Good news: Our "Solar Heroes" have successfully mastered the first challenge! By February 2, we had collected all the relevant data, including roof area, orientation, energy consumption and heating information, and made it available to our solar consultant Robert. This comprehensive collection of data forms the basis for a non-binding offer from a reliable tradesman as part of the Stuttgart Solar Offensive. At the same time, this way you secure the possible financial support from the state capital Stuttgart, Robert clarified.

Now the next challenge lies ahead of us: collecting pictures of our properties. By sharing visual impressions, we not only want to document our progress, but also inspire other Stuttgart residents to participate and motivate them. Let's make our sustainable efforts visible together!

Solar hero Thomas from Degerloch, for example, has already provided us with a sketch of his detached house from 1937 (see below). You can read more about his project in our 1st blog post on the campaign.

By the way: our next meeting will take place online on February 16 between 11 am and 12 noon. Would you like to join us? Just write to us: info@klima-community.de
