Heating was expensive last year - depending on the energy source, the costs in 2022 were up to 81 percent higher than in the previous year. This is reported by the project "Stuttgart cracks the 10%!". For heating with gas, an average household in an apartment building (70-m² apartment) pays 1,475 euros - 80 percent more than in 2021. Heating with heat pumps (+ 50 percent) and heating oil (+ 48 percent) also became significantly more expensive. The price increase was greatest for wood pellets (+ 81 percent), and lowest for district heating (+ 5 percent).

90 percent of households can still reduce costs

Heating costs are expected to remain above pre-crisis levels in the current year as well. Saving energy is therefore still worthwhile - and is possible for 90 percent of households. Changes in behavior and modernization can save an average of 535 euros per household, and in some cases as much as 1,270 euros. Extrapolated to Stuttgart as a whole, this would mean annual savings of 135 million euros. At the same time, around 265,000 tons of CO2 could be avoided for climate protection. The Stuttgart figures are based on Germany-wide comparative values for heating from over 250,000 energy bills and heating cost statements.
