Innovative technology can make a significant contribution to environmental and climate protection by promoting the efficient use of resources, collecting and analyzing data, or otherwise relieving the burden on society and the environment. Technology is thus a key driver of sustainable development. The more strongly and frequently environmental technologies are used, the greater the effect.

For this reason, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) promotes the export of technology-related knowledge with the Export Initiative Environmental Technology (EXI).
Technologies that are already in use in Germany are to support a socio-ecological transformation in other regions as well. The prerequisite is that the local social circumstances are taken into account before a technology is introduced and that the project ideas are aimed at promoting society, the environment and also the economy to the same extent.

In addition to companies, organizations, especially clubs and associations, research institutions and universities that plan and implement knowledge transfer to a new market can also receive funding from the program.
