Nitrogen is on the one hand very important for fertilization and thus breeding of crops, on the other hand reactive nitrogen compounds are a burden for our environment. Our agricultural areas are characterized by nitrogen overload. The Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (German Federal Foundation for the Environment) would like to counteract this and is therefore promoting a number of measures.
These include the development of novel technologies and processes that, on the one hand, mitigate or prevent the negative consequences of nitrogen overload (for example, improving animal welfare, using fertilizers in a more targeted manner, reducing nitrogen emissions when growing vegetables, etc.) and, on the other hand, ensuring that nitrogen remains in the soil. ) and on the other hand ensure that nitrogen can continue to be used as efficiently as possible where it is needed.
