Did you know: According to estimates, every search query produces 20 mg of CO2e. That adds up quite a bit, because Google alone manages 3.5 billion search queries worldwide per day. Search queries via Google alone generate 700t of CO2e - per day!

Doing without search engines is virtually impossible these days. But: Some search engines also make it possible to do something good with a search query!

1.Qwant: The French search engine runs on 100% renewable energy and puts the privacy of its users first. Qwant does not use cookies or tracking software. There is also a Qwant Junior to help children learn how to use the Internet safely.

2. Lilo: At Lilo, 50% of all revenues of the company are donated. Users can even decide for themselves which projects should receive the revenue from their search queries. The search engine also ensures a high level of data security.

3.Gexsi: Gexsi is a young company from Berlin that invests 100% of the profits generated by search queries in social projects. These are based on the 17 SDGs. Gexsi also does not collect or resell any data.

4.Ecosia: This is - at least in my environment - the best known alternative to Google. Here, your search queries support reforestation projects. The users see directly, on the start page of the search engine, how many trees could already be planted due to their search queries.

Do you know of any other search engines that are worth knowing about?
